Dan Kurin is the kind of guy who is comfortable moving in and out of groups of people to listen and learn. He is skilled in explaining technical concepts to people ranging from experts all the way to those with little experience and loves getting diverse groups together and figuring out how to give everyone in the room a voice to contribute to something bigger than themselves. Dan is a true “full-stack” engineer with experience ranging from digital electronics to embedded firmware to desktop/server software all the way to web and mobile applications. His professional experience includes industrial automation, Solar R&D, Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering, IT administration, and helping two startups get off the ground.
Dan cares about equality of opportunities in cities and is very active in his community; he has planned 2 TEDxFlint events in 2010 and 2011, helped start a makerspace in downtown Flint, and has co-taught a DIY-focused after-school program on the north-side of Flint. Recently, he has formed and chairs the steering committee of the Flint Smart City Initiative.
